This is Thor’s screen used hero hammer from Joss Whedon’s 2012 ensemble superhero blockbuster, The Avengers. Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. assembles a team of superheroes to save the planet from Loki and his army; in response to the attack Fury reactivates the “Avengers Initiative”. Starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor: The crown prince of Asgard and based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name. He wields his weapon of choice “Mjolnir”; a large, square-headed gray hammer consisting of a short, round handle wrapped in brown leather and culminating in a looped lanyard. The object is based on Mjolnir translating as “The Crusher” or “The Grinder” the weapon of the mythical Norse god. Mjolnir is forged by Dwarven blacksmiths and is composed of the fictional Asgardian metal known as “uru”. The side of the hammer carries the inscription “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” This hammer was the main hero used throughout the film while also being made heavy to assist the actor in having it appear abnormally heavy during filming.
