Sally’s (Catherine O’Hara) stop-motion cat puppet from Henry Selick’s classic, The Nightmare Before Christmas. A stray cat roamed the streets of Halloween Town during the opening sequence. Later during the “Sally’s Song” sequence, the cat approached Sally and listened to her lament over her dear friend Jack Skellington. Created for stop-motion animation, this jointed cat puppet consists of a resin body and head with jointed foam and metal armatures on the neck, limbs, and tail. Following production, the puppet underwent extensive sympathetic restoration by Tom Spina Designs to rebuild damaged foam latex on its legs, tail, and neck, as well as patching cracked areas of the face and body. Additional repainting was later undertaken to the cat’s pupils. The puppet exhibits chipped paint and foam material at the neck.
